~ Diplomate! ~

Ieri sono stata nel bel negozio di Cinzia a Lonigo nel vicentino per terminare il corso "Quiltatura a macchina con l'uso del doppio trasporto", corso impegnativo sia per me che per le partecipanti. Chi pensa che quiltare con il doppio trasporto voglia dire "tirare" una cucitura dritta "in cucitura", non sa cosa comporta.

Entrare in sinergia con la propria macchina qualsiasi essa sia, capire le dinamiche e l'uso corretto di imbottiture, aghi, filati, interpretare il motivo che noi abbiamo cucito per operare la scelta corretta della quiltatura, sono solo alcuni degli argomenti che tratto nel corso.

Le sette partecipanti di ieri si sono tutte "diplomate" a pieni voti, hanno lavorato molto, con impegno, costanza e oltretutto si sono divertite un mondo. fra noi c'era una "alluvionata" del vicentino, Antonella e stare insieme questi tre giovedi' le ha fatto molto bene, soprattutto allo spirito. Nei corsi si instaura un' atmosfera di condivisione personale, di cameratismo che fa bene a tutte noi. Come il solito, loro hanno dato molto a me mentre erano convinte che fossi io a dare a loro...GRAZIE a tutte!

GRAZIE a Cinzia de "L' Arte della nonna" che ci ha ospitato nel suo bellissimo negozio pieno di meraviglie natalizie realizzate da lei e dal marito Max.

Oggi qua piove forte, devo togliermi un dente e....avrei solo voglia di cucire!

~ Stelle chic ~

Chi non pensa a stelle quando arriva Natale? Ogni quiltista lo fa! Come ogni anno ho preparato un corso laboratorio a tema natalizio, l'anno scorso erano le "Stelle country" ed e' piaciuto cosi' tanto che ho pensato sempre "Stelle"anche per questo Natale.

Ogni mio corso insegna una o piu' teniche tramite un lavoro e quest'anno ho deciso di insegnare, oltre alla tecnica per costruire l'esile ed elegante stella, a lavorare con la superficie da design, anche chiamata "design wall" e con le griglie di progettazione. Questi due strumenti utili permettono di controllare il proprio lavoro a piacimento in modo da ottenere un lavoro unico e personale invece di limitarsi ad un lavoro puramente ripetitivo e uguale per tutti.

Oltre ad un elegante "runner", ho preparato un pannello in sfumatura di colore e insegnero' i rudimenti base per questa lavorazione spesso ammirata in libri o mostre. Tutto come sempre corredato con il mio manuale pratico contenente tre misure di stella, piccola per il pannello, media per il runner o centrotavola e grande per un delizioso quilt.

Chi e' interessato mi contatti e indirizzero' nelle zone dove terro' il corso o se c'e' un gruppo che lo vuole fare, parliamone insieme.

Every year I prepare a Christmas workshop and this year it's going to be "Chic Stars", a thin elegant star table runner. Italian quilters love to make Christmas table toppers or quilts and this year, besides teaching how to construct the star, I will teach the use of the design wall, so they can learn to lay out their work. I will also give basic indications to work a piece from dark to light, something very few quilters do here in Italy. I truly enjoy seeing women taking courage to work out of their comfort zone, italian quilters are curious and work intuitively, very good in using colour! I will post the results of the classes in mid december......

~ Fun ~

This is Pepita, she is a Majorera goat and she will be travelling soon to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands (Spain)....she is so lucky....I wish I was in her place!

This last september, when the twinship "Mare e Monti" took place in Gran Tarajal, Maria (Germana's daughter) and Blanche my friend, had the great idea to continue the artistic exchange between Valbruna Patchwork Club and the quilters of Gran Tarajal through a Round Robin. I chose the happy goat (it is an original design by Blanche) as my block and requested happy and bright colors from my friends in Fuerte and....a spanish name for each goat!

Lei e' Pepita, una capra Majorera, cioe' autoctona di Fuerteventura e presto sara' in viaggio per le Canarie...come vorrei essere al suo posto! Il settembre scorso, quando e' avvenuto il gemellaggio fra Valbruna Patchwork Club e le quiltiste di Gran Tarajal, Maria (la figlia piu' giovane di Germana, eletta nuova presidente del club durante l'assemblea di luglio) e Blanche, hanno avuto una bellissima idea in modo da continuare lo scambio artistico fra i due gruppi: un Round Robin.

Ho scelto la divertente capra come blocco per il mio RR. (design originale di Blanche), colori allegri e...un nome spagnolo per ogni capra!

~ Autumn ~

Autumn has set in all the way here in northern Italy. We had a lot of rain last weekend and the leaves are covering like a soft and somber colored carpet the roads and people's yards. I miss the fiery fall colors of Pennsylvania, since in my country, fall is brown and pale yellow.

~ Summer was very busy, but I did get to sew some.

I made a piece for a national contest entiled "Are you ready to sin?" (the new banner is part of that piece) I chose "Greed" as the capital sin to be represented, all in yellow and gold, the requirement was to make a banner (cm 150x15) and a specific color was assigned to each capital sin. I printed two verses and worked the banner in seven sections joined together by small golden gromets and metallic gold cord . It is quite difficult to photograph a banner, so this is a small part of it. I did a lot of couching with different cords and threads on the surface, mostly in gold.

Sewed a baby quilt for a friend who became grandmother to baby girl Aurora.

Sewed a wallhanging for the twinship between Valbruna Patchwork Club and Fuerteventura (the panel was in the exposition "Mari e Monti" in Gran Tarajal, Canary Islands ~ Spain, in September) to honour and remember my friend Germana.

Made a quilted tote bag for my mom Lia....I wished I could have sewn more....

~ Now I am back teaching some classes, preparing a new class with a Christmas project and waiting for Vincent to come back from a few weeks in the Usa visiting and sharing our work in Italy to old and new churches. ~

~I thought I share with you a quilt I made two years ago that I like a lot. It's called "Autumn in Vermont". It is quite large, I used hand dyed fabrics, the dark brown is commercial, crazy pattern for the block (Karla Alexander).

The peculiarity of this quilt is that I machine quilted free motion many leaves, one by one (not in a continuous line) each has starting stitches and finishing ones. When a friend asked how many leaves where on the quilt, I answered: " Maybe 200...". I decided to count them. Took out straight pins and counted 100 at the time and placed them on the leaves.....I was astonished when got to the last leaf....they were 550!

I had so much fun quilting them, I wanted to fill all the gaps on the surface of the quilt, so I quilted more and more and more.....Many decorative threads were used, rayons, aurilux, metallics........

The piece received quite a lot of attention in the april show featuring my contemporary work in the Venetian Villa Widmann and it is one of my favourites.
